How does Eddy Current cause waste?

Eddy currents produce heat which is wasteful (#1). Transformers are constructed using laminations (#2) which are thin sheets in an E or I form so a mains power transformer core which is about 1/2" thick will be built up of 20 or so laminated sections. By laminating the core eddy currents are reduced, therefore heat and the resultant energy waste is reduced.
